What are AI browser games?
AI browser games are games you play in a web browser tab, with nothing to download, that were built with artificial intelligence or use it while you play. The movement took off in 2025 and exploded in 2026, as solo independent developers started building commercial-quality 3D games simply by describing them to AI coding agents.
When people search for “AI browser games”, they usually mean one of three things. OttersPlay currently lists 98 AI browser games, with creator credits and sources on each detail page. Our separate classic browser ports collection is not included in that count.
1. Games coded by AI (“vibe-coded” games)
This is the core meaning. A person describes a game to an AI coding agent, such as Claude Code, OpenAI Codex, Cursor or Grok, and the agent writes most of the code. The person plays it, asks for changes, and repeats. The style is called vibe coding, after a phrase coined by Andrej Karpathy.
The game that made it famous is Flight Simulator by Pieter Levels. In February 2025 he released a multiplayer flight game whose start screen says “100% made with AI”, built with Cursor, with the server code written by Grok 3. It led to Vibe Jam, a yearly game jam where at least 90% of each game’s code must be written by AI. See our complete playable archive of Vibe Jam & AI game jam winners.
Some well-known examples:
- The Great Taxi Assignment won Vibe Jam 2025. Its credits say “99% of code was AI generated (Cursor AI + Claude Sonnet 3.7)”, and it was built in 60 hours.
- A Game About Capybaras Delivering Food won Vibe Jam 2026 and $25,000. It took two weeks and was made with Claude, Tripo AI, ElevenLabs and Suno.
- World of ClaudeCraft is a full browser MMORPG with nine classes, dungeons, a raid and PvP, built alongside Claude.
- Bash Fighter is a 20-player fighting game that a Claude-based agent develops and runs largely on its own.
- Neon Zenith is a hover car game in a 9,373-building neon city. Its creator says it was built over a weekend with Claude Code, and that “the model wrote the code, the shaders and the Blender pipelines.”

2. Games that use AI while you play
In some games the AI is part of the gameplay rather than the build process. A language model runs live and makes things up as you play. The best-known example is Infinite Craft by Neal Agarwal: you combine Water, Fire, Earth and Wind, and an AI model invents the result of every new combination. Text adventures such as AI Dungeon and the AI games on Perchance work the same way, with a model narrating the story in response to whatever you type.
These games feel different every time, but they depend on a live AI service. OttersPlay focuses mainly on games that were built with AI and run on their own, and lists the runtime-AI games that are playable in a tab.
3. Fan parodies, demakes & AI tributes
Beyond original game jams, independent developers frequently build playful parodies, satirical demakes, and fan games using AI tools. Because AI coding agents make 3D game engines like Three.js and Babylon.js accessible without multi-million dollar budgets, creators can quickly prototype tributes.
Examples on OttersPlay include PokéBonk (a fast-paced 3D monster survivor game), Triple-A Minesweeper (Mike Lacher’s satirical blockbuster parody with yellow paint guidance and melodramatic cutscenes), Destroy Any Website (a viral toy that turns any webpage into a destructible physics playground), and StarCraft: Ashfall.

2026 AI browser game stats: tools & engines by the numbers
Based on OttersPlay’s verified catalogue of 98 original AI-made browser games (78 with creator-confirmed AI tool disclosures and 67 with identified rendering engines), here is how developers actually build playable web games with AI:
| Category | Tool / Engine | Games on OttersPlay | Share of Disclosed Games |
|---|---|---|---|
| AI Coding Model / Agent | Claude / Claude Code (Sonnet & Opus) | 48 games | 62% (many paired with Cursor) |
| AI IDE / Agent | Cursor | 11 games | 14% |
| AI Coding Model / Agent | OpenAI Codex & GPT models | 12 games | 15% |
| AI Coding Model / Agent | Grok & Google Gemini | 9 games | 12% |
| 3D Web Engine | Three.js (WebGL2 / WebGPU) | 44 games | 66% of engine-identified games |
| 2D Web Rendering | HTML5 Canvas | 8 games | 12% of engine-identified games |
| Other Engines | PixiJS, Matter.js & Godot Web | 15 games | 22% of engine-identified games |
| Gameplay Features | Online Multiplayer / Mobile Touch | 29 multiplayer · 58 mobile | 30% multiplayer · 59% mobile-ready |
What AI browser games are made with
| Part | Common tools |
|---|---|
| Code | Claude Code, Cursor, OpenAI Codex, GPT, Grok, Gemini |
| 3D engine | Three.js (by far the most common), sometimes Babylon.js, PixiJS for 2D, or Godot exported to the web |
| Art and models | Tripo3D, Trellis, GPT-4o images, Nano Banana, or free asset packs such as Kenney |
| Music and sound | Suno for music, ElevenLabs for sound effects |
| Multiplayer | WebSockets on a small server, often also written by the AI |
| Hosting | Vercel, Netlify, GitHub Pages, Cloudflare Pages, itch.io |
Why AI browser games took off
Two things came together. AI coding agents got good enough to write and debug thousands of lines of game code from plain-English instructions. And the browser became a serious game platform: WebGL and WebGPU for 3D graphics, WebAssembly for near-native speed, and WebSockets for multiplayer. A game made this way is just a link, so it spreads easily on X, Reddit and Hacker News, and anyone can play in seconds.
Game jams gave the scene its structure. Vibe Jam (2025 and 2026), the AI Browser Game Jam on itch.io and smaller jams like the Vibe Summer Game Jam produce hundreds of new AI browser games each year, and many of the best games on OttersPlay started as jam entries.

Frequently asked questions
What are AI browser games?
AI browser games are games you play in a web browser tab, with nothing to install, that were built with AI or that use AI while you play. Most are coded by independent developers using AI agents such as Claude Code, Codex, Cursor or Grok.
Are AI browser games free?
Yes, almost all of them are 100% free to play directly in your browser tab.
Do I need to download anything?
No. They run entirely in the browser using WebGL, WebGPU, and Three.js with zero installs.
Which AI tools are used to make browser games?
The most credited tools on OttersPlay are Claude and Claude Code (62% of AI-made games with named tools), Cursor (14%), OpenAI Codex and GPT models (15%), and Grok or Gemini (12%). Most 3D games (66%) use the Three.js library; 2D games often use plain HTML5 Canvas.
What is the best AI browser game?
It depends on what you like. Flight Simulator started the trend, The Great Taxi Assignment won Vibe Jam 2025, A Game About Capybaras Delivering Food won Vibe Jam 2026, and World of ClaudeCraft is a full MMORPG. See our list of the best AI browser games.
Are AI browser games safe?
Each game runs on its creator’s own website, inside the browser’s sandbox, so it cannot install anything on your computer. OttersPlay’s player loads a game only after you press Play. As with any site, don’t enter passwords or payment details unless you trust the creator.
