About The Long Way Up
Two thousand vertical meters from junkyard to cosmos with no checkpoints. An unforgiving multiplayer climbing parkour challenge.
Ascend a towering obstacle course stretching 2,000 vertical meters from a scrap junkyard into the upper stratosphere and deep space.
Time every sprint jump, wall clamber, and ledge catch with pinpoint precision: there are zero checkpoints, and a single slip sends you plunging back down.
Compete against live player avatars scaling the same vertical structure simultaneously, tracking relative height markers.
How The Long Way Up was made with AI
Created by Max Blade using Claude 3.5 Sonnet and Three.js with the Rapier physics engine (WASM). It renders high-speed post-processing effects and physics colliders, pitting players against a 2,000-meter vertical ascent.
Made by @_MaxBlade.
How to play
Desktop Chrome, Edge or Safari with WebGL2 and hardware acceleration. Due to server origin restrictions, click Play on cnvs.dev to open the dedicated game window.

Quick facts
- 2000 meters vertical height with continuous physics simulation
- Rapier WebAssembly physics for deterministic ledge collisions
- Multiplayer height tracking and live player visibility
Questions about The Long Way Up
Are there checkpoints in The Long Way Up?
No. True to the Only Up tradition, there are zero checkpoints. If you miss a jump, you fall as far as gravity takes you.
Why does it open in a new tab?
The host server sets an origin security header (SAMEORIGIN) that requires opening the game in its own dedicated window.
Is there multiplayer?
Yes. You can see other live climbers scaling the same vertical obstacles in real time.
How high is the summit?
The summit reaches 2,000 meters above the starting ground, transitioning through junkyard, industrial, aerial, and cosmic zones.
Tips for The Long Way Up
- Never sprint-jump when landing on narrow pipe ledges; tap backward immediately upon touchdown to kill forward momentum.
- Watch other climbers ahead of you to spot invisible obstacles or deceptive platform angles before committing to a leap.
- Adjust mouse sensitivity in the pause menu so you can flick your view 180 degrees quickly while airborne.
