About GTA: Vice City

Vice City compiled to WebAssembly. Drive the neon streets of 1986 in a browser tab.

This is Vice City as on PC: the 1986 story, the radio, the neon. The page adds import and export of PC save files, custom player skins, optional cheats (off by default, F3), on-screen touch controls and a frame cap setting.

About the game

The engine is reVC, the open-source reverse-engineered Vice City code, compiled to WebAssembly with Emscripten. A Web Worker unpacks the game archive into browser storage, and a Service Worker serves it, so after the first import the game runs offline.

Made by @joncodeofficial, building on reVC and the DOS Zone WASM engine.

How to get GTA: Vice City running

  1. The game needs a one-time import of game.tar.gz, about 668 MB compressed.
  2. Select the archive, wait for 'Ready to play', then press Start. It stays in browser storage afterwards.
  3. The project's disclaimer says you need your own legitimate copy of the game.

How to play

Chrome 110+, Firefox 111+ or Safari 16.4+. Phones need landscape.

Tips for GTA: Vice City

  • Cheats are off by default: press F3 if you want the classic sandbox chaos, leave it off for a clean first playthrough.
  • Export your save before switching browsers or clearing storage: the save-import feature is the port's best trick.

An independent browser port of a classic game, not an AI original. OttersPlay does not host game files and is not affiliated with the original publisher. Some projects require files from your own copy.
